Questions and answers

How do I get a Sloa Account?

Open Nome and tap New to Sloa? Create an account on the sign-in screen. Enter your email address and a password, then open the link we email you and sign in. You can also use Sign in with Apple or, where the app offers it, Continue with Google. Nome is for people 18 or older. If you already use Sloa Learning, sign in with that account; it is the same one.

How do I subscribe?

After you sign in and agree to the AI processing, Nome shows its two plans, Nome Monthly and Nome Yearly, with the price for your country. Choose one and confirm the purchase with your Apple Account. There is no trial period. The subscription belongs to your Sloa Account and renews automatically until you cancel it.

I have a new phone, or Nome doesn't see my subscription.

Sign in with the same Sloa Account as before: the subscription comes with the account. If Nome still shows the plans, tap Restore purchases on that screen. It looks up the purchases of the Apple Account on the device, so the device has to be signed in to the Apple Account you bought the subscription with.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Nome. Manage subscription in Nome's Settings opens the same page. There you can change the plan or cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends; you keep access until it ends. Deleting the app or your Sloa Account does not cancel a subscription.

Can I get a refund?

Apple takes the payment and decides about refunds, so we can't pay a purchase back ourselves. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, choose to request a refund and pick the Nome subscription. If something went wrong with Nome, write to us as well and we will help.

I forgot my password.

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and enter your email address. Open the link in the email on the same iPhone; Nome opens and lets you choose a new password. The link works once and for one hour.

How do I delete my account?

Open the side menu, tap the gear for Settings, then Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your Sloa Account, including Sloa Learning progress, and everything Nome keeps for you, and it revokes Nome's access to connected accounts. It can't be undone. If you have a subscription, cancel it first in your Apple Account settings: deleting the account does not cancel it. You can also ask us by email.

How do I report a wrong or harmful response?

Press and hold the answer, then choose Report response. Add a note if you like. We read every report.

How do I withdraw my consent to AI processing, or turn memory off?

Settings → AI & data. There you can see which services Nome uses, switch memory off and withdraw your consent. Without consent Nome can't answer messages; you can give it again at any time.

How do I connect Gmail or Google Calendar?

Open the side menu, then Customize › Connections, choose Gmail or Google Calendar and tap Connect. You sign in with Google in a secure window; Nome never sees your Google password. Disconnect in the same place at any time; Nome's access is revoked and its copy of your mail previews is deleted.

How do I use Calendar, Reminders or my location?

Customize › Connections: turn on what you want Nome to use. iOS asks for permission the first time. You can turn any of them off again, in Nome or in the iOS Settings app.

How do I ask Nome without opening the app?

Add the Ask Nome control to Control Center, or choose it for the Action Button (iPhone 15 Pro and later: Settings → Action Button → Controls). Press it, speak, and press again. The answer appears on your Lock Screen.

How do I talk to Nome in WhatsApp?

Where the app offers it, you link Nome to an agent that you create in your own WhatsApp. You need your Nome subscription and your consent to AI processing, as in the app.

  1. In WhatsApp, open Settings, tap Agents and add an agent. Give it a name and, if you like, a picture.
  2. WhatsApp shows the agent's API key. Copy it. Later you find it in the agent's chat, in the chat's info.
  3. In Nome, open the side menu, then Customize › Connections › WhatsApp, paste the key and tap Connect.
  4. Open the agent's chat in WhatsApp and say hello. Nome answers you there.

If your WhatsApp has no Agents setting, WhatsApp does not offer agents to you yet: it says they are available in a limited number of countries so far, and not to everyone there. Nome cannot change that. If Nome shows no WhatsApp entry under Connections, it is not available in your Nome yet.

What can Nome do in WhatsApp, and what is different there?

Nome answers the text messages and voice notes you send it. A very long voice note (more than 4 MB) is not listened to, and Nome says so. It works with your to-dos, notes and lists as in the app and, as far as it can without your iPhone, with what you have connected. Three things are different:

  • Your iPhone is not in that chat. Nome works from what the iPhone last reported, and something only the iPhone can do, such as a new reminder or a calendar event, happens once Nome is open on your iPhone again. Nome tells you in the chat when it has been done, or that it was not. Playing music, running a shortcut, and looking up or changing a contact need the iPhone in your hand and are not done from the chat.
  • When something needs your OK, Nome asks you in the chat, writing out what it would do, or asks you to open the app. In the chat, answer with a plain yes or no as your next message, typed, within fifteen minutes. Anything else, and a voice note, lets the question lapse, and nothing is done.
  • Nome cannot read pictures, files or other attachments there yet. It tells you so.
Is my chat with Nome in WhatsApp private?

Not in the way your other WhatsApp chats are. A chat with an agent in WhatsApp is not end-to-end encrypted: WhatsApp passes your messages to Nome's server, which reads them to answer, and the answer is written with the same AI services as in the app. Nome answers only you there, and it cannot see any of your other chats. While WhatsApp is linked, Nome's server also keeps what your iPhone last reported about itself, for example where you last were, your open reminders and your calendar, so that Nome can help without the phone. Disconnecting deletes it. The privacy policy has the details.

How do I disconnect Nome from WhatsApp?

In Nome, open Customize › Connections › WhatsApp and tap Disconnect. Nome stops answering there, and its server deletes the key and everything it kept for the link, including what your iPhone last reported. The conversation stays in Nome until you delete it there, like any other.

Your agent stays in WhatsApp until you remove it: in WhatsApp, open Settings, tap Agents, tap the agent and remove it. WhatsApp says you can still read your earlier chat with it afterwards.

Nome stopped answering in WhatsApp, or the key stopped working.

In Nome, open Customize › Connections › WhatsApp. The page says where the link stands.

  • Needs a new key. WhatsApp no longer accepts the key Nome has. That happens when you generate a new key in WhatsApp or install WhatsApp again. Copy the current key from the agent in WhatsApp and paste it into Nome. Messages you sent before you pasted the new key are not answered, so send them again. Pasting a new key starts the link over: whatever was still waiting to be done on your iPhone is dropped too, so ask for it again.
  • This key is already connected to another Sloa Account. A key works with one Sloa Account at a time. Disconnect it in the other account, or add a new agent in WhatsApp and use its key.
  • WhatsApp didn't accept this key. Copy it again, whole, from the agent in WhatsApp and paste it once more.
  • Connected, but no answer. When Nome cannot answer because your subscription is not active, your consent to AI processing is missing or withdrawn (Settings → AI & data), or the day's 200 replies are used up, it says so in the chat, once a day for each reason; other messages that meet the same reason that day get no reply. None of them is answered later, so send your message again once it is sorted out. An answer can take a little while, above all after a long pause. If WhatsApp itself says the agent is no longer available, update WhatsApp.

What is sent where?

Your messages, and what you allow Nome to use, go to Sloa's server in Frankfurt and to the AI services that write the answers, some of them in the USA. The privacy policy lists every service, what it receives and how long anything is kept.

Does Nome cost anything?

Yes. To use Nome you need a subscription, monthly or yearly, and there is no trial period. The app shows the price for your country before you subscribe, and so does Nome's page in the App Store. Nome shows no ads. Each account can ask for up to 200 replies a day.

Which devices does Nome run on?

On iPhone, with iOS 18 or later.

Nome is made by Sloa and offered by Trout UG (haftungsbeschränkt). Terms of use · Privacy policy · Imprint
